The left menu bar is also static throughout the admin section. It has useful links, some of which are expandable.
The left menu bar has links to the following pages in the admin section:
- Dashboard: Dashboard shows at a glance the state of the blog, recent comments, incoming links and Quick Edit.
- Separator/ Iconifier: Below the Dashboard link and also below the Comments link in the left menu bar of the admin section, there is a separator link. On clicking over that, all the text links in the left menu bar get iconified and as a result we get more space for editing. Clicking on that link again, deiconifies the left menu bar and shows the text again.
- Posts: The Posts page shows all the list of posts written and on clicking of each post link, the post editor opens up. On mouseover you will also see a quick edit mode for inline short editing of the post in-place. You can also search for posts. The Posts link is expandable showing links for adding new post, Post Tags and categories organization pages.
- Media: The Media Page lists all the media added to the media Library of the blog. The interface look is similar to that of post page, but on mouseover you can Edit the image or delete it permanently. You can also add new Media
- Links: The edit links page allows you to view and edit any link. It is also expandable link which allows you to add new link and add link categories.
- Pages: Pages in Wordpress are different from blog Posts. Pages are for presently the occasional static data not related to the normal regular updates of blog Posts. So, the Pages page let’s to add new, edit, search, delete and view pages.
- Comments: Comments admin page is used for moderating the blog reader’s reactions and comments. Comments are shown in four statuses :

- Pending comments which are awaiting moderation from administrator
- Approved comments which are Okayed and given green signal by the administrator. Only these comments appear in the blog.
- Spam comments which may be automatically marked as spam by spam detecting plugins like Akismet or specially flagged by administrator as spam.
- Trash comments are comments deleted by the administrator.
You can change the statuses of the comments and also edit them.

- Appearance: Appearance link expands into sub-links related to the layout, look & Feel and design of the entire blog. The Themes admin page allows user to add new themes and change existing theme from the installed themes list. On clicking on a theme, it shows a preview before actually applying a theme. Also under the Appearance link, there is Widgets sub-link for designing the sidebar of the blog. A sidebar of a blog may contain various widgets representing pieces of functionality and code such as archives, categories, calendar, search, links, RSS, recent comments, etc. You can just drag and drop any of the available widgets onto the sidebar for adding to it and similar drag and drop a widget from sidebar to remove it. Then there Editors link to let web programmers directly edit CSS, PHP, MySQL, HTML template code directly from Wordpress. Lastly, there is Custom Header Page for editing the header of the blog.
- Plugins: Plugins are extensions available for Wordpress that add more functionality to the blog or help manage the blog in a better way. You can add, remove, activate, deactivate and edit Wordpress plugins from this page.
- Users: The Users page is managing multiple users of the blog. The authors can be given different levels of control for writing articles and managing the blog. New users can be added or deleted and roles can be changed. You can also edit your profile, change your password, and add email, contact information and description.
- Tools: Tools page has expanded sub-links for importing & exporting posts and upgrading Wordpress. If you had already prepared a blog in another blogging system like blogger and now need to use Wordpress for that blog, then you can import your blog posts from a number of major blogging systems like blogger, LiveJournal, Moveable Type, Typepad, RSS feeds and other Wordpress blogs. You can also export your Wordpress blog posts as an XML file, which can imported in other blogging systems. Wordpress can upgrade or reinstall Wordpress automatically or manually through the Upgrade Page.
Settings: Settings expands into a number of sub-links used to control the global configurations of the Wordpress blog. In the General Settings you can change the Blog title, description, date & Time formats, etc. In writing settings, you can change the configurations related to the editing of the posts like default category, etc. In reading settings, you can change how the blog reader views the blog and its posts. Discussion settings control the comments related aspects, Media settings control the image and video default sizes, Privacy setting are for enabling or disabling search engine visibility, Permalink settings are for blog posts URLs structure and Miscellaneous settings control uploads folder path.
