USB Troubleshooting

Hello, this morning I was troubleshooting a very easy problem from a friend. The thing was that he was using a 19-in-1 USB card reader device. He told me that the USB device was working fine in the morning but when a pop up window appeared on his computer the device stopped working for some reason. He told me that he clicked on the window and he was very sure that it was the thing that made the USB went wrong. Before I continue, I will always recommend to a general computer user explain to the technician as much detail as he can about the problem, that will definitely help him to spot the issue on the system. Now while I was inside the system, I just did very basic USB troubleshooting.

First,

1. I try to test the USB device on the same computer by myself just to double check that in fact it was not working. Result: It did not work.

2. I try the USB device in my laptop. It worked right away. So, that told me that the device was in good shape. As a consequence there was no need to test cables or any other thing.

3. I plug again the USB device on the machine with the problem, but it did not still worked.

4. I went to the Device Manager and check the USB devices. When I was there I notice a red mark on the USB port, so I just right click on the device with the red mark and click enable.

That basically solved this problem this time.

Again if this solution does not solve your problem, you can try these options too.

1. Try the USB device on a different computer.

2. Change USB cable.

3. Double check that no USB port on the DEVICE MANAGER has a red mark or yellow exclamation point.
