Troubled by slow internet access? I was told that the internet speed depended on the number of its users. The more people online, the slower the speed is.
According to VIVA news, United States’ Barkeley, Stanford and Chapel Hill in California have the fastest internet access in the world. But actually 62 percent of cities in the world that have the fastest internet access are in Asia.
According to an internet content speed survey report from Akamai, which was released on Tuesday 20th April 2010, Japan was faster than those three California cities’ in internet speed. From 100 fastest internet speed cities in the world, 48 cities of them are in Japan and other 62 cities are in Asia. South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan are these three Asia countries which have the internet speed exceed 7,5 Mbps (Megabyte per second).
As quoted from PC World, an employee of Akamai said, “Each four-month of a year, we survey the internet speed of cities in the world. We’ve monitored and found 465 millions IPs with unusual speed and this number always increases higher than the previous four-month result.” Akamai also found that 31 states of America have increased their internet speed in the last survey report.
If the IP addresses of US and China gathered, then they will reach 40 percent of Akamai survey lists. During the global crisis, Akamai found that there were 96 countries in the world that had internet speed under 1 Mbps and 3 countries with internet speed under 100 Kbps (Kilobyte per second). This number has decreased from 103 countries (previous report) to 96 countries (present report). Through these reports we can see that there are progressive actions taken to improve the internet speed, which indicates that most people in the world are now using internet.
