Fragmentation is one of the main things you can do when it comes to keep your hard drive in good health. Over time, as you upload new files to your hard drive, and install or uninstall programs, games, and other software solutions, your computer can be affected. Often these files are broken up into thousands of little pieces and scattered all over your hard drive. In general this cannot cause any significant problems in your computer, but it can cause a noticeable performance slowdown, which can be easily cured by running windows software called Defragmenter.
Defragmenter is a very simple task of just moving the files around the hard drive, so they are placed all together. This arrangement allows the hard drive to load a file faster because the head, which is the arm that reads the data off the plates inside the drive, does not have to scatter all over the place to read the data.
