If you found yourself in a position that a few of your Windows icons are not displaying correctly with the corresponding icon of the file or the Icon Cache is corrupted. Follow this tutorial, you will be purging and rebuilding the icon cache batabase.

An example of this bad behavior of Windows is when you have ZIP files and instead of displaying the default ZIP icon is displaying, let's say a Windows Media Player Icon.

Windows caches or saves all icon preferences automatically to a single database that is called IconCache.db.

How to enable AHCI to speed up hard drive in Windows 7

The Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) needs to be enabled in the computer’s bios. Windows 7 will not load if this is done without ensuring that the AHCI driver is loaded in the operating system (which it is not by default). The benefit of enabling AHCI is that it will speed up read and write operations of the hard drive. (This will occur only if the hard drive supports AHCI.) It is therefore recommended to check the hard drive first to ensure that it is supporting AHCI.
Here is a step by step guide to enabling AHCI in the Windows 7 Registry.

  • Press (Windows R), enter (regedit) and hit (enter).
  • This opens the Windows Registry editor.
  • Move to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci
  • Locate the parameter (Start) on the right side and double-click it.
  • Change its value from 3 to 0
  • Restart the computer and enable AHCI in the bios

However, I have found that too many users are deactivating this setting by mistake. So this tutorial will help you to activate or deactivate this preview value in your Windows Vista.

We are going to be going from picture 1 to picture 2 and vice versa.

In GodMode, you will actually duplicate the Windows Control Panel. It puts the 270 most useful commands from its various modules front-and-center.

In the gaming community, GodMode is the name given to cheats in video games. They will provide the user with all weapons and access to all areas.

In Windows 7, it lets you have every setting and option right in front of you, ready to be used without having to browse among different settings. You will normally find some settings in the control panel, but in the GodMode, most of the important settings will be there. There won’t be any need to look any further.

Today I came across with a problem in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (11.8169.8172) SP3. I setup a POP 3 account in the program and everything was working right.

It was sending and receiving e-mails, but for some reason when I was trying to send an e-mail to a hotmail, live, gmail, or any other free e-mail account, Outlook was sending me this error “Error 503: Valid RCPT command must precede DATA” or error “550 This Server.”

USB Troubleshooting

Hello, this morning I was troubleshooting a very easy problem from a friend. The thing was that he was using a 19-in-1 USB card reader device. He told me that the USB device was working fine in the morning but when a pop up window appeared on his computer the device stopped working for some reason. He told me that he clicked on the window and he was very sure that it was the thing that made the USB went wrong. Before I continue, I will always recommend to a general computer user explain to the technician as much detail as he can about the problem, that will definitely help him to spot the issue on the system. Now while I was inside the system, I just did very basic USB troubleshooting.

Disabling the Paging File on Windows XP.

Disabling the paging file on Windows XP

If you are using more than 1 GB of memory on your computer, you could probably disable the paging file on Windows XP without causing any trouble on the system. The paging file basically help programs get more memory when you run out of physical memory ram or in other words exceed the physical memory installed on a PC.

For instance, if you are using a program that is consuming 512 MB of physical memory, and you only have 512 MB of memory ram, the paging file will create virtual memory so your program does not crash.
