For many years, Apple and Microsoft have been trying to make themselves look better than one another, and usually Apple wins every single time. Then again, Microsoft is mainly a software company, while Apple is both. Microsoft has its own gaming system, the Xbox 360, while Apple has its own TV Recorder, the Apple TV.

Both companies have their share of music players, as well. Even though Apple has more types of music players than Microsoft, Microsoft’s Zune has grown in popularity because of the type of music store offered. With iTunes, a user pays for every song he or she downloads. This is opposed to the Zune music store, where the user pays a monthly fee for a certain number of downloads, and depending on the “plan,” the amount may be unlimited. Some users find the monthly plan more convenient than an “a la carte” plan.

And now back to the gaming devices… Even though Microsoft has the Xbox 360 as a gaming system, Apple did try to compete. And with this, the iPod Touch was brought into the world. However, both have their ups and downs. The Xbox 360 can take heavier games, but isn’t portable like the iPod Touch.

A major difference between the two companies is the software that is used. Apple strictly uses Mac OS X, while Microsoft is only set upon Windows. Now, any user can prefer any operating system. It just depends on what the operating system should be used for. For example, Windows makes great office and work computers, as well as computers for normal everyday use. Apple, on the other hand, makes computers that have a more “cartoon” look inside. In most opinions, Apple’s computers can really be used for music and video editing or 3D Rendering Programs. Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t have very good gaming computers.

As easily seen, Microsoft and Apple are two totally different companies. It is not fair to say one is better than the other until one has tried both types of companies with different products. That will allow the best opinion to be made for each individual. And with Apple’s new releasing of the iPad, Microsoft has a lot to compete against.
