Doesn’t it really stink that your laptop suddenly dies in the middle of your work? As soon as it died, you think, “Oh I should have changed some simple settings to make my laptop battery just a little bit longer.” If you don’t know these small tips that can make a big difference, then please read on, as the following information could really help you.

First – One of the main actions anyone can take is to just turn down the brightness of the laptop. You’d be surprised at how much battery life you can save by just adjusting the screen brightness to a lower level.

Second – Don’t watch movies while running on battery power. Watching movies drains the battery life very quickly, so if you don’t have to watch a movie, then don’t. It would be best to wait until the laptop is plugged in before watching a movie.

Third – If you don’t need to use Wi-Fi, then turn it off. If you keep the Wi-Fi switch on, it will continue to search for wireless hotspots or access points, even though you may not think it is. This uses up battery power, and to stop the use, simply turn the Wi-Fi switch from on to off. If your laptop doesn’t have a Wi-Fi switch, you can disable it from within the Windows or Mac wireless utility or with the software that came with your laptop.

Fourth – Set up the laptop to dim and/or turn off the display after a certain amount of time. This can be done in the control panel. This will definitely help save battery life. Using this feature will automatically dim the display of the laptop or even turn off the display (which is just the screen) if it has not been used for a certain amount of time. You can decide how long this is. You also usually have the options to turn off the hard disks, put the computer into standby, and even have the computer automatically turn off.

Hopefully these tips can help you save your battery life. Now, when you’re writing that important college paper, it won’t be lost when your laptop decides to turn off.
