Apple iPad Arrives In Stores

As the new iPad was officially released last week, more than 300.000 people bought it. The new histeria created by the iPad is more than visible, and it may not be too long until iPad will reach a high number of sales. If you already have an iPad or you want to buy one, then you will need to know some things about it. For example, setting it up or features its offering.

Setting up the iPad

It's not difficult to do, but you will need iTunes on a computer. Connect the iPad through an USB to you home machine. After you do that you will be asked if you want to activate the iPad. Sure you want that...

iTunes will serve as your iPad's backup system, and even if you could restore it from a previous iPhone or iPod Touch, Apple recommends starting from fresh. The next step is the syncing of your files (music, videos, photos). The first sync will take a while, but choose wisely if you want it to be done automatically next time, as I don't think that's a smart decision. Setting up the e-mail is as easy as on an iPhone. Just select the application you want to use, enter the login credentials and you're good to go.

Managing your iPad via iTunes

Your computer's iTunes will be your home base for the iPad. You will want to customize your iPad's media content and configure your settings. Tap through the top navigation items (we will talk about them right now) to adjust the settings for individual media types. For every option you select you will have to choose the "Apply" button in the bottom right-hand corner.

Summary: You can find here the basic overview of your iPad settings, check for updates, review the capacity, restore to default and select sync options.

Info: You can access iCal calendars, e-mail accounts or bookmarks. You can allow iTunes to syncronize your iPad's contacts, e-mail accounts and calendar to your computer.

Apps: This is the application tab. You can manage all of them from here. All your iPhone or iPad Touch applications will be here if you syncronized the iPad with them. Here is also the place where you will be able to select the most used application and to pin them into the left-hand menu.

Music: This tab will allow you to sync your entire music library.

Movies: If you have movies to be syncronized with the iPad, then here's the place you will be able to do that from. You can select whether you want to do it manually (and select the songs you want) or automatically.

TV Shows: This is pretty much similar to the Movies tab. Apple recommends you to upload the shows you want to see in the short time only, because otherwise the capacity of the iPad will be full in a few moments after starting syncing.

Podcasts, iTunes U and eBooks: Those three tabs offer the same features as the Movies tab.

Photos: You will probably want to select the pictures you want to sync, because you always have to think about storage. It's the same problem as with the TV Shows. Take care when syncing too many things, you may find yourself in the situation you will have to delete stuff because there's not free space available anymore.

Those are a few basics you would want to know before starting to set up your newly bought iPad. Now you found out about those things, why are you still losing time here? Go and enjoy your new gadget!
