FireFox has seen very fast paced growth in recent years. It has dethroned Internet Explorer as the major Dominant Web Browser.

Much of the tremendous popularity of FireFox Browser has been due to the huge number of add-ons available for FireFox. FireFox add-ons extend the functionality of the Web Browser by adding some features, which are not available by default in the Browser. Some add-ons help make the browsing experience easy for the user, while some others help the web designers and developers in inspecting, debugging and editing web pages.

Firebug is a very popular FireFox add-on which helps in editing, debugging, monitoring and testing of Web Pages inside the Browser.
Because Firebug works as an add-on inside the Browser, you don’t need to switch between the editor and Browser.

For installing Firebug, first you need to install FireFox Web Browser on your machine. You can download the latest version of FireFox from www.firefox.com. After downloading, run the setup to install FireFox on you machine.

  • Click on ‘Add to FireFox…’ button in the search result for ‘Firebug’.

  • Then in the Software Installation screen, Click on the ‘Install Now’ button. If you get any errors during the installation, then try upgrading your version of FireFox by selecting Help Menu and then check for updates. If even then you are still getting installation errors, then directly visit the Add-ons for FireFox website at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ and search for Firebug. Then click on ‘Add to FireFox’ button to install Firebug.

  • This will start installing Firebug on your machine. Please wait for the installation to be complete.

  • After the Firebug installation has been downloaded, you need to Restart FireFox before starting to use Firebug. Click on ‘Restart FireFox’ Button to complete the Firebug installation. FireFox Browser will be closed and restarted with the saved tabs of previous session.

  • Once FireFox restarts, you will see the Firebug successfully installed in the ‘Extensions’ list along with other installed Add-ons. You can enable or disable Firebug by clicking on the Enable/Disable button. Also, in case you don’t need Firebug then you can uninstall Firebug by clicking on the Uninstall button.

  • Close the Add-ons window. Now it is time to see Firebug in action. Just right-click anywhere in any web page and click on the ‘Inspect Element’ item. This will open up the Firebug Pane right below the web page where the selected element’s code will be highlighted.
