 Last week we were checking a PC with the following System Specifications:

Windows Vista Basic 32 Bits

1 Intel Celeron CPU 

1 GB Memory Ram

200 GB HDD

The Problem was:

Recently one of our customers came to us with a problem on her computer. Every time that she was starting her computer, the system was acting very slowly.  More surprisingly, she was not using too many programs and has not installed programs at all, besides the ones that big companies normally ship within the systems. A simple look to the system pointed everything to a software problem. When we were checking the "Windows Task Manager", we found that the CPU was already overload 94% without even started any program. While further checking, we found out that the “explorer.exe”, was the problem. Moreover, when we restarted explorer.exe on the task manager everything comes back to normal and explorer.exe was using again the normal 1% of the CPU. However, every time that we restart the computer, the problem was coming back again.

The Solution was:

If you don’t want to reinstall Windows or do something else that will take more time from you, do the following. Again this could help you or not, but if it does, we will be glad that it did. What you have to do is, please have in mind that this is an easy fix and won't work on all computers.

1.      Backup your original User Account, Mails and any other critical files.

2.       Create a new Administrator User.

3.      Make sure that the search indexing for the new User folder is TURNED OFF (to disable search indexing go to properties of the folder -> and then go to Advanced)
The moment you see the CPU getting crazy again, delete the last User stuffs you just copied.

4.  From now on, just "log in" in the new administrator user name. This should solve the problem of the Explorer.exe using 100% of your system.
