Easy ways to stay away from spyware
Spyware… No one wants it, although many people have it and don’t even know it. It is very important to stay away from spyware, because in some severe cases, the computer can be destroyed. This would then cost a lot of money to be repaired. There are several steps that anyone can take to help them stay away from spyware.
1. Stay away from sites that you do not trust. Visiting dangerous sites can automatically infect your computer with spyware. These could be keygen sites, piracy sites, pornographic sites, “free” item sites, and more. On top of this, spyware can be in your email. It is important to not open up any email from people or companies that you are not familiar with.
2. Download and install an anti-spyware program. A very nice program out there is Norton 360, which not only protects against spyware, but also can clean your computer of current spyware. Norton 360 will also help with virus protection and more. It is not free and can get costly depending on the version you want. It is definitely worth the investment. If you would like to get free anti spyware software or don’t want to pay the price of Norton 360, there are plenty of other alternatives out there. If an anti spyware program you like has a free trial version, then by all means, please try it out first! This will allow you to see what the program is capable of and how user friendly (or user un-friendly) the program is to you. It would also be wise to look up some personal reviews of some anti-spyware programs.
3. With your new anti-spyware program, run weekly (or even daily) scans on your computer. This will pick up any spyware that snuck into your computer.
4. Keep your firewall high, along with your other security settings. This will block out many intruders and will also ask your permission when certain items, for example a printer or new modem, try to connect to your computer. It will also ask for your permission when a program attempts to connect to the internet either for updating or another task.
Spyware is a pain in the butt, but can be easily fought against. Just keep your computer up to date and get a good security program, and you should be golden.
