Branding Your Windows XP Computer.

Have you ever notice that when you buy a new computer from a big manufacturer, it comes with a name and logo from that company? That normally comes inside the system properties window, like in the example below.

Windows System Properties

Don't you think it will be nice to replace that information with your own? Or what about if you just build a new computer and you want to brand it with your own personal logo and name?

Whatever your reason is in this blog/tutorial, I'll show you how to brand your Windows XP computer.

First of all if you want to check the actual brand of your computer, you need to go to STAR-->and Right Click on MY COMPUTER. Then select PROPERTIES.

By now you should be on the System Properties window, where you can see the brand and logo of your system.

So lets get started. For a better understanding don't forget to check the video tutorials at the bottom of this blog.

1. There are two parts to branding your computer. The first one is the image or logo and the second one is the text or personal information about your system.

2. So, you must create an image. It does not matter where you create that image, but it should have the following properties. The images has to be a bitmap and be no larger than 180 x 115 Pixels. Once created, you will need to name it “oemlogo.bmp” and save it in the following folder → C:WindowsSystem32

3. Now that you have the logo, you will need to create the text information. First you need to open your Notepad and type the following code. Please feel free to change the information after the equal sign to anything you want.

[General] Manufacturer = Spectra Computers  Model = Spectra Black PC 180 Series
[Support Information]

SupportURL = http://www.spectraelite.com
Line1 = Support Provided In English And Spanish
Line2 = Houston Support 713-370-9612 | Dallas Support 214-628-0298

4. Once you have the text in the right format, click on File on the top left corner and select Save As.

5. Save the file as oeminfo.ini. Please make sure that the new file oeminfo.ini is save it in the following folder C:WindowsSystem32

If everything was done right, the next time you restart your computer and look the System Properties window, you should see your new branding information.
